Comprehensive Eye Exam

Eye exams are important regardless of your age or health. A comprehensive exam determines your prescription for eyeglasses and contact lenses. An eye exam is also important to check your eyes for common eye diseases, assess how your eyes work together as a team and evaluate your eyes as an indicator of your overall health. Many eye and vision problems have no obvious signs or symptoms. As a result, individuals are often unaware that problems exist. Early diagnosis and treatment of eye and vision problems are important for maintaining good vision and eye health.

Eye examinations at Vision Best Eyecare utilize state-of-the-art ophthalmic equipment and personalized attention from the doctor and staff. Your examination will include measurement of visual acuity, intraocular pressure, color vision, depth perception, eye muscle coordination and focusing tests. The outside of the eye will be examined with a slit lamp microscope and the inside of your eye through a dilated pupil to diagnose diseases such as cataracts, glaucoma, and retinal degeneration. Also, common systemic conditions detected in a routine eye exam include Diabetes, High Blood Pressure, High Cholesterol, Neurologic disease such as Multiple Sclerosis, Autoimmune Disease such as Lupus and Rheumatoid Arthritis. At Vision Best Eyecare, your eye health is our highest priority.

Contact Lens Services

During a contact lens examination, our optometrist will evaluate your eyes to determine which lens is right for you. Although a prescription for contact lenses or eyeglasses may contain similar information, a contact lens exam is more in depth and the prescription contains measurements for lenses that sit directly on the cornea.

Advances in technology for contacts are constantly changing. We specialize in contact lenses that target specific eye problems such as dry eyes, high levels of astigmatism, presbyopia, and certain eye diseases such as Keratoconus.

Vision Best Eyecare has a large selection of the most popular and recent diagnostic lenses to successfully fit you with your specific vision needs such as:

  • Soft lenses (daily disposable, 2 weeks, and montly replacement lenses)
  • Toric lenses for astigmatism
  • Multifocal soft contact lenses
  • Color contact lenses
  • Specialty gas permeable lenses

Whether you want to wear contact lenses full-time or part-time, our doctor and staff will work with you to determine what type of lens will best suit your specific visual needs and lifestyle to give you the most optimal vision.

LASIK, Laser in Situ Keratomileusis, is a form of refractive surgery that is an alternative means for vision correction that may reduce or completely negate the need for glasses or contact lenses. Simply put, LASIK creates a corneal flap and reshapes the cornea with a laser.

This procedure is highly dependent on a patient’s individual prescription and their corneal thickness (the area available to make changes).

Other surgical alternatives that are also available are:

  • PRK, photorefractive keratectomy, which involves the mechanical or alcohol removal of the epithelium and then uses a laser to reshape the corneal stroma
  • Phakic IOL implantation is a new option, which involves implanting a lens behind the cornea but in front of the iris, and for many of those who are too highly nearsighted for LASIK, this will improve their chances of becoming candidates for refractive surgery.

If you are interested in refractive surgery, please let us know. Refractive surgery is not to be taken lightly. Detailed testing is necessary to determine whether or not you are a good candidate for the surgery. If testing shows you to be a good candidate, we can help you choose from Knoxville's top refractive surgeons. We provide both pre and post-operative care.
